Hello everyone this is a true story about how I was able to regain my speech after having a stroke in January 2017. When I had the stroke I lost my right arm and leg and the ability to understand or talk my language, when anyone spoke to me I could not make sense of it. The first words I could understand were yes and no and I could say yes and no but anymore than that I would get confused. I had six weeks of therapy after I had the stroke and was able to understand my name and some basic words enough to get by for talking to my wife, but physically had to be in a wheelchair, but I went home. We started getting in home physical therapy. In time I was able to walk with a walker and at last with a cane, this took about a year to achieve. At this point my wife went back to work as I was already retired when I had the stroke and we had medical expenses building up. I was home alone when my wife worked and I spent most of my time in bed but had a PC hooked up to a monitor at the foot of our bed so spent many hours playing solitaire on the PC I tried watching regular TV but would only confuse me and make me feel bad. Well I have always believed in God and Jesus and the Holy Spirit, one day I was playing cards on the PC and was getting so tired of living like that, I heard a voice, not in my ears but in my head, telling me to watch Gunsmoke which I had downloaded to the PC before I had the stroke and I had watched as a kid with my dad on TV when it was new. At first I thought this isn't going to work, but since I had it already I figured it would not hurt to try after all it would just confuse me a little. So I found the files and started watching the first episode, it has John Wayne explaining about this new show Gunsmoke, and I was beside myself as I could understand all of it, then the first show started and I could understand it as well when I saw Chester I knew it was him and Doc, Kitty, Matt, I knew them all and understood everything they said, this was great for me, but I wondered how could this help me, that same voice, not in my ears but in my head, said use the credits, so I started watching the credits, the first name that came up was James Arness I new that name in my head, I paused the credits there and tried to say it out loud, it came out with no meaning at all, so I tried over and over again, maybe by the tenth time it started to sound a bit like James Arness, so I went to the next name in the credits paused it and worked with that name until it sounded better, I did this on every name in the credits listing, I had all 20 years of Gunsmoke episodes and watcheed everyone of them and then went though the credits also on each episode and by the time I finished I was able to talk and understand so much better, and I knew that voice that I heard was our Lord helping me to get better. A couple of other things if you know of anyone else with this problem, if there is a movie or TV series even a soap opera that they really liked and can get some of the older episodes that they saw before the stroke, they are still in your brain, you just don't know where they are, but you use them to teach yourself to get better using the credits to help you learn to speak again. One other thing, if my wife was with me it did not help, one thing they want to help you when you try to speak this only confused me, better if I was alone, and another thing if we are alone we don't care how we sound when first time trying to say a name, again was better alone.
